Michael Emmerson whilst walking along the Dawlish coast in October 2020 and was able to catch this HST in Network Rail colours, showing the versatility of these sets.

Michael was then treated to this 4+2 set with 43154 leading, heading for Exeter St David's

Richard Preece was down at Penzance on 14th May 2025 to take a ride on this HST. It departed Penzance Station @ 08:50 from Platform 3. 5 late! Head code: 2P08 Train Company: Great Western Rake consist: 43189 leading, 43097 trailing and set GW07. 4 car set.
Train was quite busy. Nice to reminisce about these real trains. A lot quieter than the IET's as the power units are front and rear; not located under the body. Also, they develop adequate power to drive the train! However, it still lost time and arrived into Plymouth, platform 7, 11 minutes late.
