A trip to the Isle of Man in 1963 awakened David's interest in the 3ft Narrow Gauge He then discovered a book called 'Narrow Gauge Railways of Ireland' by Fayle. This opened his eyes to the island's wonderful variety of railways and locomotives which were, by then, all closed and abandoned. David then started to collect photographs and make models in 7mm scale to try and recreate some of what he had missed. Fortunately, some of our best known railway photographers such as Patrick Whitehouse and Ivo Peters had the good fortune to see and capture many of the lines both in black and white and colour. David's talk is based around his slide collection and will cover the major systems such as the County Donegal and Cavan and Leitrim but also include some of the minor and less well-known railways. The presentation will finish with his favourite railway in County Kerry both in its heyday and the sad demise of a rescued fragment
